Why won't a PPTP VPN account appear on a device?

Apple has removed support for the PPTP VPN connection type as of:
  • iOS version 10
  • macOS Sierra version 10.12 
PPTP providers and accounts can still be created in SimpleMDM, however, they will not be delivered to devices running the OS versions listed above or newer.

Apple has released an announcement of this feature deprecation, citing general security issues preventing PPTP from being a recommended, secure mechanism for sensitive communications.
