  1. Allow enforcing of Filevault with institutional recovery key.

In Merakis MDM solution it is possible to enforce Filevault across your fleet using an institutional recovery key. Would really really like to see this feature come to SimpleMDM.

SimpleMDM includes personal key support with escrow. We believe this is a more secure, superior strategy to using a global institutional recovery key.

We hope that this will fit your requirements. If it does not, we welcome your feedback on this request.

  2. Group or global level default custom attribute

When using custom attributes for profiles, I would like the ability to have a globally defined default value for a custom attribute. This would be overridden by a group-level custom attribute (if specified), otherwise it would inherit from the global value. Finally, if the value could be overridden at the device level should that level of granularity be required.

So the order of precedence (from lowest to highest) would be:
    • Global
    • Group
    • Device

A use case of this is for password policies. I can create a custom password policy with a custom attribute like {{requiredlength}} to

Restart and Shutdown API commands can be used to create a custom script run on a schedule.

  4. More Usefull Features for MAC OS.

There needs to be a full set of features for MAC OS. 1) pushing updates 2) Allowing to track via the Map

And more!! Pushing apps like final cut is a plus. But we should be able to do more with the MAC OS.

Many features have been added for macOS since this post was submitted. If there are other features you would like to see added, please submit a new suggestion.

  5. Auto Lock Device

The ability to set the Auto Screen Lock timer at a group level.
We already have the ability to display a message on the lock screen at a group level. Just need the ability to set the time for the Auto Lock.

    Thank you.

This feature is already available under Group Settings > Passcode.

  6. Asset Management

In Jamf there is a field you can enter on a device labeled "Asset Tag". It was a nice way to keep track of Asset Tag numbers without having to put it into the Device Name.

Have you considered using a custom attribute? You can add “asset_tag” by visiting Configs > Attributes. This will then add an asset_tag field to each device under device details.

Ability to simply browse to a unique account link to enroll a new device. Protect the download with a company pass code. I've used other MDM's and they offer this as an option.

Please see our new device listing interface. You can select individual groups of devices to view.

  11. Add macOS account creation DEP options

Please add the account setup options to the macOS DEP options to the DEP options that SimpleMDM offers. They're described under "Account setup options (macOS only)"

Skip is very useful in AD/directory service environments where machines are bound(I'm not part of them), and creating local admin vs local standard user is just nice for flexibility.

  13. Along with listing the apps to add in a build, please show if it is an IOS or Mac OS app.

In the drop-down list of apps to add to a build it would be nice to see if it is an IOS or OS app rather than having to add it and see in the list if it is one or the other.

  14. Support SAML authentication for Single Sign-On

Having options for increased authentication security is greatly appreciated, and for our organization, is basically a hard requirement for IT systems (and is used everywhere else if at all possible).

Having support for SAML in SimpleMDM would significantly increase our interest in using it. Anything that allows you to control company-owned devices should be extremely secure - SAML lets us use our own Identity Provider and control general access, login policies, multifactor requirements, and more.

Preferably, the implementation would allow for JIT user creation, or even better, user creation & deactivation provisioning options (preferably via SCIM).

    For reference, we use…

  15. Support iOS 10.3 Restart Device Command

In iOS 10.3, Apple has added support for remotely rebooting a device through an MDM command.

This would be a great option for unattended use cases to clear errors remotely. We've had a number of requests for this type of functionality in the past and I'd love to see it supported in SimpleMDM.

  16. "Google Account" Profile Support

We are a Google Apps shop and Apple has introduced a great profile called a "Google Account" profile. It specifically configures Email, Calendars, Contacts using Google's login and specific communication protocols (e.g. Web-based, not Exchange nor IMAP/POP).

It works for iOS and macOS, and works very nicely to activate new devices with their Google account.

The only requirement of the profile is the user's email address to be defined. I think this means the profile needs to be configured as a provider, exactly as you have done with Mail/VPN/etc. profiles.

Because of this I cannot use a Custom Configuration Profile,…

  18. Custom Fields

I would like the ability to have custom fields, more than just a notes field. Ideally would like at least "Assigned to", "Asset tag #" so this information can be exportable. The notes field works, but multiple custom fields would be much more useful.

Custom Attributes are now available in SimpleMDM. This allows you to define fields and assign values on a per-device basis. This information is exportable through the API.

SimpleMDM supports scenarios where more than one device object may exist for a given serial number. Additionally, device objects do not always have serial numbers attached to them. For instance, a new device record may be created before device enrollment occurs. Such being the case, a serial number cannot function as a unique ID.

Nonetheless, the Device – List All API endpoint has been expanded to support searching for devices based on serial number, UDID, phone number, and name. This allows for more efficient device ID lookups. More information is available here: https://simplemdm.com/docs/api/#list-all39

  20. Expose a field for the date a device was first enrolled in SimpleMDM

Hey there, I am guessing you store this information in your database already and just have not exposed it as a field on the site / in your API, but it would be incredibly helpful for us, decision-making wise, to be able to export (via API or CSV file) the date when our devices were first enrolled.

We are trying to do proper analysis about, e.g. device-loss metrics over time, and without this field, we have to dig into our order history or our Apple DEP files and cross-associate/reconcile the information.
