  1. Support 'Payload Variables' in Configurations

Allow the use of dynamic 'payload variables' within Config Providers.

e.g dynamically use Serial Number, MAC Address or IMEI number within a Web Clip or VPN provider - to use device specific info as an identity or username etc etc.

  2. Increase frequency and reliability of location updates

Even when background app refresh and location services settings are correct, location updates seem sporadic. It would be nice if location update frequency and reliability could be improved, or perhaps a manual "force location update" option could be added.

Location is now updated on a best-effort basis at the same time that the device inventory is refreshed. Additionally, a manual refresh button is available below the historic location map in device details.

Enrollment links can be configured to require LDAP or SAML authentication. Additionally, Enrollment links can be deleted to prevent future enrollments.

  5. Add notification payload support for macOS

10.15 Beta 6 adds ability to parse notification payload (from iOS) on macOS. This is useful for whitelisting management apps that we always want to be able to show notifications to users.

  6. Extend profiles API to include listing/managing all profiles

Currently the only profiles that can be managed via the API are custom configuration profiles.

Please extend management of the profiles to include all the profiles that can be created within the SimpleMDM web console so that these profiles can also be managed with the API.

Given there is no ability to assign devices to multiple device groups, using the API to ensure all device groups get the profiles required is the only means of ensuring consistent application of profiles to device groups.

  7. Do not apply kernel extension profiles to ARM devices

It's a known issue that applying a kernel extension profile to an M1 device can put it into a failure to boot condition, displaying a "Recovery is trying to change system settings. No administrator was found." dialog.
Would be great if SimpleMDM could prevent us from ending up in that situation.

Please refer to the “scope” section available on the Kernel Extension Profile page for this functionality.

  8. Implement AllowNonAdminUserApprovals for macOS Kernel Extension policies

Starting in Big Sur, Apple requires a local user to explicitly allow kernel extensions to be installed, even if they are whitelisted by MDM policy. By default only admin-level accounts are permitted to do so, but this is not practical in environments that don't allow end-users to be admins. Any such kernel extensions, and the software that depends on them, are basically unusable after upgrading to Big Sur.

Please implement the new 'AllowNonAdminUserApprovals' option in macOS Kernel Extension profiles. This will allow our non-admin users to "approve" the required kexts and their software to function again. The public documentation hasn't…

Please find the new “Other extension approval” option under the Kernel Extensions screen.

  9. Add a "Description" field for each Profile

I've been working with custom profiles recently, and realised that the description field can be relatively long and verbose.

I work in an organisation that values transparency and openness - and it struck me it would be amazing if each profile could have a couple of lines describing what it does... self-documenting MDM - so rather than an end user sticking in a ticket asking "what does this profile do???" the profile can tell you what it does...

See the screenshot for an example.

  11. Enable Remote Management

Apple docs suggest there is an Enable Remote Management MDM command available, I can also see Remote Desktop Enabled as a field in the device Security section- would be useful to have a per device / per group option to enable this for the MDM-generated admin account. Handy for those of us still using ARD, and easier than signing up for a developer account building a signed package just to run a shell script.

Please find a new “Enable Remote Desktop” action on the device details screen.

  12. Allow greater configuration of Web Content Filters (FilterBrowsers)

The Web Content Filter profile creator does not support all the features offered by Apple (https://developer.apple.com/documentation/devicemanagement/webcontentfilter). In particular, configuring Crowdstrike Falcon requires setting a FilterDataProviderBundleIdentifier and associated permissions that are not configurable in SimpleMDM. This necessitates using a custom profile right now.

This is now supported in the native Web Content Filter profile in SimpleMDM.

  13. Enable Remote Desktop per enrollment instead of globally

The new feature to enable remote desktop automatically is great, but we only want to enable it on a certain enrollment, not on all machines.

  15. update app version

Update app version for enterprise apps. We update our apps regularly for customers and there is no support in Device Link for this. We need to delete the old version and upload a new "App"

  16. Ability to nest groups so that you can push apps to a subset of devices without having to move them to a separate group.

I have groups of devices set up, but also have a need to push apps to only certain devices within the group. right now i have to move them to another group, which means i have to then add that new group to all of the app distributions that their previous group had. if i could nest groups, i could push apps to the parent group or just the child group if needed.

  18. Add Home Screen Layout Support (new iOS 9.3 MDM feature)

Hey there, just wanted to bring this to your attention in case you are not already working on it!

    https://developer.apple.com/enterprise/ConfigurationProfileReference.pdf

As of iOS 9.3 there will be support for MDMs to submit a home screen layout payload!

This is a huge deal for the company where I work and would be a giant boon to our operations.

Would love to help you guys roll this functionality out in a timely manner, could do all sorts of beta testing and QA and offer feedback.

    Thanks so much,

IKEv2 support has been added. OpenVPN is currently not supported by Apple’s MDM protocol, nor by Apple’s built-in VPN client.

  20. Different time zone support

Enable different time zones for foreign users, let them see the time zone they are instead of whichever simpleMdM use
