  1. Privacy option for iOS devices

In Europe its critical to record information about employees. It would be great if we could setup a MDM group were we can add our employees iOS devices and in this group we don't see the device location (already possible) and also disable the "Apps" tab, which can contain very personal information about installed apps.

  2. Add macOS minimum requirements for group rules

iOS allows you to specify a minimum requirements for group rules. The aim is to have privacy profiles go to Mojave’s clients only. At the moment have to split into a separate group. Would be nice to be able to have one group and privacy stuff go to 10.14 only

  3. Expose md5 and/or Other Checksum(s) of Enterprise Apps in Catalogue

Once an app binary has been uploaded and deployed to devices via MDM it can be hard to find which particular build is actually deployed to the world.

If you may happen to have binaries that share the same BundleID, CFBundleVersion, and CFBundleVersionShortString there is no way to tell which app is actually uploaded. If we could see an md5 checksum or sha1 or sha256 it wold be a nice and easy way to know with confidence which binary was uploaded.

  4. Setup wireless to allow for open networks

Within the wireless settings, put in an option to allow for connecting to open networks. Would be good for public wireless connections that may need to go thru an acceptance screen or a proxy filter to allow connection. Currently it is only feasible thru a profile manager .config file custom attribute import. Would be nice to have this directly available in wireless security options.

While this suggestion has a healthy number of votes, I'd like to better understand the problem this would solve. Devices refresh automatically on an hourly basis. Generally speaking, a manual refresh should not be necessary to apply changes - those should be queued automatically once saved in the UI. If you find yourself resorting to a manual refresh to get a change/update applied, I recommend contacting our support team. if this is still a concern, I'd prefer we solve the root of the problem than require additional steps to ensure that expected changes are applied.

It's been a few years since this post has received any votes/comments, so I'm going to close this for now. Please feel free to submit a new suggestion if there is a specific case where this could help and/or reach out to us if you'd like to discuss further. Thanks!

  6. Hide Apps in the Catalog (and in the assignment drop downs as well)

I would like to see a feature that would allow me to "Hide" VPP Apps in the catalog, and thereby also hide them in the drop downs when assigning them.

The dilemma that I’m running into is that some apps vendors have issued completely new apps under the same name to replace an old one: For example, GoToMeeting and Sharefile both have “Old” and “New” apps in the system. I would like to hide the old ones in the catalog and the in the dropdowns so that I don’t accidentally assign them.

There are also apps that vendors no longer…

  7. Add custom UID option to macOS account creation on enrollment

The option to skip Setup Assistant's prompt to create a user and create an admin provided account on enrollment is useful.

I'd like to see, if possible, the option to specify the UID of the account that gets created. We have environment specific needs for a specific UID for the account that isn't 501.

Unfortunately Apple's MDM spec does not currently provide us the ability to specify the UID of the account that gets created during Automated Enrollment (DEP) / Setup Assistant.

I will close this request for now, but we will continue to monitor Apple updates in case this option is added to the MDM spec at some point.

  8. SimpleMDM granularity

    Hi SimpleMDM Dev Team:

Thank you for allowing this space to share creative thought in the ongoing development of SimpleMDM. May some of my ideas have already been discussed, maybe not-- regardless I trust this will be taken into consideration.

Since the slow death of Apple's Profile Manager has left very little control to us in IT as Admins and Engineers, it would be nice to see SimpleMDM pick up the slack and not just fill in the gap but lead with the innovation of a few things in the macOS platform so that many of us can continue to…

We appreciate the kind words and positive feedback! I'm closing this due to inactivity and since this covers many different features in one. There are several quality ideas here - it would be best to have these submitted as separate suggestions with richer details for each request (problem statements, example use-cases, etc). That way they can be voted on individually and it's easier for us to track, gauge impact, and prioritize. Some of these features may already be addressed since the time of the original post, and/or may or may not be as important now due to changes in the Apple ecosystem. Thanks!

  9. Have a historic log of tracking information?

  10. Add Support for onboard or installed S/MIME Certificates

It would be awesome if ActiveSync Email Accounts provided by a Provider could allow for either manually installed (onboard) or MDM provided S/MIME certificates.

  12. Locked onto wifi network

It would be very beneficial for us to have the option to lock our devices onto a particular Wi-Fi network. We have several networks, but only 1 setup with the correct access and printers. If there was a way to lock our devices onto this network only, it would avoid a lot of issues that we have been having.

Closing due to inactivity (no votes/comments for 5+ years) and limitations of Apple's MDM spec. The Restrictions profile does allow preventing connections to other networks not configured via by MDM profile.

  14. I would like to request SMTP support, with authentication.

I would like to request SMTP support, with authentication. It would be nice to get emailed when critical events happen within SimpleMDM’s management interface. Examples, when a certificate is about to expire, or when a device is quarantined.

Apple's MDM protocol does not currently provide a profile to configure/enforce portrait or landscape mode. The only close exception is when using the Single App Lock profile, there is a "Disable device rotation" option.

  16. Completely lock the device

I'd like the ability to prevent someone using a device for a period. This could be combination of a device lock, along with a passcode change, or some "auto" way to push a device into single app mode with the SimpleMDM app as the only one, with a basic "device is locked until xx" message.

This is just a situation where you want to prevent device use until you re-allow it or a way to stop the device being used for anything until a certain time.

If you could do this as a feature, this would be huge with the…

  18. Disable Location History Per Device

I would like to have the Simply MDM on all my company's devices. However, I don't want to know where the owner of the company has been over the last 24 hours. I would like to be able to turn off the owner location history but leave on the current location. The purpose of leaving on the current location is so we can locate the device is it is lost or stolen. I would like to do this for each device.

MDM Lost Mode would be the best way to achieve this. It is intended exactly for the purpose described and does not require the use of the general location tracking feature that retains location history.

  20. Disable iOS power button

Allow the iPhone power button to be disabled so that the device can't be powered down if lost or stolen.
I'm aware that for now, this functionality is only available in jailbroken devices running Cydia tweaks, but it would be an awesome enhancement to have in the future.
