  1. Apps & Media > Assignment UI redesign

    The user interface for the Apps & Media > Assignment area of SimpleMDM is rather clunky for viewing and adding assignment groups, etc.

    For example, after creating an assignment group to allocate profiles to, picking/selecting a profile is a pain as you have to know the name of a profile in order for it to appear in the list of app/media/profiles that can be added to the group. This is most painful when there are more than three profiles that can be selected (in my particular case there are over twenty profiles that can possibly be selected).

  2. Custom Configuration Profiles API - Download the profile as a JSON object, not a text object

    Currently it looks like the download method for the custom configuration profiles API returns the profile being downloaded as a text object not a JSON object.

    The preferred (at least for me) response object that should be returned is a JSON object in keeping with all other responses.

  3. Integrate Google’s Santa project into SimpleMDM?

    The clue is in the name SimpleMDM - your product makes the difficult parts of managing your Mac devices simple - setting up and managing Munki could be challenging, and now the easy to use implementation you’ve provided is a great fit for lots of organisations.

  4. Option to auto renew ACME Certificates - DDM and Profiles - Managed Device Attestation

    We would like an option to have ACME certificates auto renew. This is a feature currently available for SCEP issued certificates.

    Our use case is using managed device attestation and the new ACME payloads to create certificates that can be used for 802.1x, but we need them to auto renew before they expire (for internal reasons the validity period is 91 days).

    It would also be helpful to provide tokenised values for the CN.

  6. An option to automatically whitelist any apps assigned to a device group.

    By default, we restrict what apps can be installed on iOS devices. Right now, if I want to deploy a VPP app to an iOS device, I have to add it to the device assignment AND remember to go to my restrictions profile and whitelist it.

    I suggest that all assigned apps be automatically whitelisted, or at least have a setting that can turn on this automatic whitelisting if the SimpleMDM admin selects it.

  7. Show assignment groups a profile is added to in Profiles page

    The Profiles UI page currently has a column for Groups Assigned (this means device groups) and Devices Assigned. There is no column for Assignment Groups Assigned, meaning it can look like they're not assigned to anything from this page but of course they are in the Assignment Groups page. There needs to be another column here allowing us to click through to show the Assignment Groups that the profile is added to.

  9. Add option to delete after wipe

    (Or a similar control to ensure devices are never unenrolled before the wipe command is received.)

    If you send a wipe command to a device that is currently offline, and then remove that device from SimpleMDM before it comes back online, the device will only be unenrolled from SimpleMDM and not wiped.

  11. Support large API uploads

    SimpleMDM support responded to me raising reliability issues with large API uploads with:

    The file upload limit using the API is 5GB (10GB using the GUI). Because of how uploads are processed via the API vs. when using the GUI, there are more points of failure that could potentially interfere with the upload process completing successfully, especially for larger files that take longer to upload.

    Because of this, it is recommended to upload larger files using the GUI. Larger uploads may not always fail when uploading using the API, so you're not hurting anything by continuing to try but, if…

  14. Better Profile Management

    When creating new profiles, it would be awesome if it showed settings that only applied to the device type(s) you have selected.

    For instance i have some profiles that are for IOS only, some are Mac OS Only, and some apply to both.

    It would be awesome for profiles that are IOS or MacOS, ETC Only to show settings that can be configured for those OS's only just to cut down on clutter and confusion.

  15. Allow multiple Software Update Policy for macOS profiles in same group

    It should be possible to apply multiple "Software Update Policy for macOS" profiles to a single group if the scopes of the profiles do not overlap. For example, I'd like to enforce a "latest minor update" policy on macOS 14 and 15, plus a latest major version on macOS 13 and below.

  18. Add a user preference to set the default filter for the Devices list.

    The new filtering defaults to Name, which I very rarely use. I'm having to switch the filter to Serial every time I load the devices list.

    There should be an Action menu for a user on a device for the SimpleMDM admin to be able to:
    - View user details
    - Edit the group membership (e.g. standard vs. admin or other groups)
    - reset user password
    - remove secure token
    - unlock an account
    - delete a user
